DIRECTORATE OF FAMILY WELFARE AND PREVENTIVE MEDICINE.

 

Brief History:

Since time immemorial man has been striving to overcome morbidity and mortality by way of adopting various control measure with an objective to eliminate and eradicate various diseases. In the state of Tripura endeavors have been taken to alleviate the suffering of people from diseases by rendering preventive, promotive and curative health care services. 

Date/Year of Establishment:-

This department started its sincere services widely since its inclusion with the Govt. of India on 15th October, 1949 in the name of Department of Health, Govt. of Tripura.  On 27 January, 1999 the Health & FW Department has established another Directorate in the name of Directorate of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine in addition to Directorate of Health Services.

This Directorate has the administrative control over all the 8 establishments of the Chief Medical Officers,  21  Community Health Centers, 121 Primary Health Centers and 1017 Health Sub-Centers, 39 Ayurvedic Dispensary and 66 Homeopathic Dispensary.

Who is Who?

 Dr. Anjan Das is the Director of Family Welfare & PM.

 

Objectives:

  • To ensure adequate, qualitative, preventive & curative health care to people of the State.
  • To ensure health care services to all particularly to the disadvantaged groups like scheduled tribes, scheduled castes & back ward classes.
  • To provide affordable quality healthcare to the people of the State, not only through the allopathic systems of medicine but also through the homeopathic & ayurvedic systems.
  • To ensure greater access to primary health care services by bringing health institutions at the door steps of people as possible, particularly in the underserved & backward areas.
  • To ensure Population Stabilization.
  • To prevent as well as control of other communicable & non-communicable diseases under National Health Programmes.
  • To reduce maternal, neo-natal & infant mortality rates.
  • To improve hospital services at the primary in terms of infrastructure, drugs & personnel.
  • To impart training to doctors, nurses & other paramedical staff to upgrade their skills & knowledge to improve quality health care in the state and improve medical education in the State.
  • To improve Adolescent Health Care.
  • To ensure food safety activities.

 

Activities :

  • To facilitate provision of antenatal intra natal & post natal services to women.
  • To facilitate provision of family planning services
  • Implementation of Immunization Program.
  • Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases
  • Implementation of PC & PNDT (Pre conception & Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act 1994 Prevention of Sex Selection) and MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) Act.
  • To implement activities under different communicable and non-communicable disease control under National Health programmes
  • To monitor performance and quality of family welfare & all other activities
  • To facilitate provision of Adolescent Health Services in the state
  • Capacity Building to update knowledge & skills of various categories of health functionaries.
  • To Implement Food Safety and Standard Act and strengthening of the Food Laboratories.

 

Achievement made during the year 2023-2024 (up to 30th November, 2023) as follows:

  • 1(one) no. New PHC building of Kanchanmala PHC, West District NHM scheme has been inaugurated.
  • 1 (one) no. New PHC Building of Taibandal PHC under Sepahijala District has been inaugurated.
  • Inauguration of Staff Quarter at Urmai PHC under Sepahijal District.
  • 1 (one) no. New PHC Building and staff quarters of Chebri PHC under Khowai District have been inaugurated.
  • Creation of 32 (thirty two) posts of Multipurpose Worker (Female) by keeping in abeyance.
  • Continuation of 49 (forty nine) nos temporary vacant of Public Health Nurse (now Nursing Officer).
  • 8 (eight) nos Food Safety Officer’s were recruited through Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC).

Achievements made during the year 2022-2023 are as follows:- 

  • Construction of 10(ten) bedded PHC building and staff quarters of Matinagar PHC under Sepahijala District under MsDP scheme has been inaugurated.
  • 3(three) numbers of new CHC Building of Kalayanpur CHC under Khowai District, Boxanagar CHC under Sepahijala District & Natun Bazar CHC under Gomati has been inaugurated.
  • 2(two) numbers of new NNPHC Building of Mirza & Adipur PHC under Gomati District has been inaugurated.
  • 24x7 Services in the Uttar Maharanipur PHC under Khowai District has been started.
  • Up-gradation of PHC to CHC at Kakraban CHC Gomati District under RIDF/IMR scheme has been inaugurated.
  • 1(one) no. new Office Building of Chief Medical Officer Sepahijala District under RIDF/TIIFB scheme has been inaugurated.
  • 1(one) no. new 20(twenty) bedded PHC Building of Madhupur PHC Sepahijala District under NHM/RIDF scheme has been inaugurated.
  • Twikarma Hospital under TTAADC South District has been declared as Primary Health Centre.
  • 1(one) no. New CHC building with staff quarters of Ompi CHC under Gomati District has been inaugurated.   
  • 2 (two) numbers of New PHC building at Santipur NNPHC under Unakoti District &  Brajendranagar PHC under North District has been inaugurated.

Achievement made during 2021-22 are as follows:-

  • 5(five) nos. new norm Primary Health Centre upgraded to bedded PHC namely Champaknagar PHC under West Tripura, Taidu PHC  under Gomati Tripura & Jagabandhupara, Masli & Lalchara PHC under Dhalai District Tripura.
  • 3 (three) New 10 bedded PHC building of Ganganagar PHC under Dhalai District, Baijalbari PHC & Tulashikar PHC under Khowai District has been inaugurated.
  • 1 (one) no. New norm PHC of Rajnagar PHC under North District has been inaugurated under NHM scheme.

Achievement made during 2020-21 are as follows:-

  • 5(five) nos. new norm Primary Health Centre upgraded to bedded PHC namely Hezamara and Bidhya Debbarma Memorial PHC under West Tripura, Radhanagar and Manughat PHC under South Tripura District and Jumthung under  Dhalai.
  • 10 bedded PHC has been upgraded to 30 bedded CHC at Rajnagar has been inauguration, South Tripura under NHM scheme.
  • New 20 bedded PHC building at Tilthai PHC under North District has been inaugurated.
  • New CMO Office building at South Tripura has been   inaugurated under IMR scheme.
  • New Norm PHC at Debdaru under South District has been inaugurated under IMR scheme.
  • 3 (three) New PHC buildings of Borakha PHC under West District,  Chellagang PHC &  Maharani PHC under Gomati District has been inaugurated under NHM scheme.
  • New building of Mohanpur CHC under West District has been inaugurated.

Achievement made during 2019-2020 are as follows:-

  • 3(three) nos. new UPHCs (Urban Primary Health Centre) have been commissioned at Agartala  Pura Nigam & Bhati Abhoynagar under West Tripura District and Padnapur under North District.
  • Manughat PHC has been inaugurated under NHM scheme.
  • Champahour PHC has been inaugurated under IMR scheme.

Achievement made during 2018-2019 are as follows:-

  • 5(five) nos. New UPHCs (Urban Primary Health Centre) have been commissioned at Ashrampara, Madhyapratapgarh, East Jogendranagar, Paschim Bhubanban, Nandanagar under West Tripura.
