Directorate of Medical Education

About Department and Directorate

With a view to separate the medical education chapter from the Directorate of Health Services, this directorate was bifurcated and a new directorate namely Directorate of Medical Education was set up. This Directorate (Directorate of Medical Education) started functioning w.e.f. 15.10.2011 and was accommodated in the 2nd floor of Tripura State AIDS Control Society building located opposite to IGM Hospital (old gate). This directorate was later shifted to the 2nd floor of Dr.P.B. Das Memorial Diagnostic Center at Bidurkarta Chowmuhani, Agartala.

Who is Who

Prof. Dr. Chinmoy Biswas is the Director of Medical Education, Dr. Sanjib Kr. Ghosh is the Head of Office, Dr.Priya Jyoti Chakma is the OSD, Dr. Nihar Ranjan Das is the Branch Officer Nursing, Dr. Tushar Kanti Majumdar is the DDO and SPIO and Dr. Pratik Swarup Ray is the Branch Officer Training in the Directorate of Medical Education.

Organizational Set up

This new directorate is under the administrative control of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Tripura headed by the Principal Secretary to the Govt. of Tripura, Health and Family Welfare Department. Prof. Dr. Chinmoy Biswas is the Director and Head of this Directorate. There are many Medical, Pharmacy, Para-Medical and Nursing Colleges / Institutions both in public and private sector in the State which are under supervision of this Directorate.

Medical Colleges

  • Agartala Govt. Medical College with GBP Hospital as its teaching Hospital, Agartala and is imparting both Under Graduate (MBBS) and Post Graduate (MD/MS) Courses in various Disciplines (Government Institution)
  • Tripura Medical College with Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital as its teaching Hospital, Hapania, West Tripura and is imparting both Under Graduate (MBBS) and Post Graduate (MD/MS) Courses in various Disciplines (Run by a Society)

 

Pharmacy Institutes

  • Regional Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (RIPSAT), Abhoynagar, Agartala and is imparting both Degree and Diploma courses in Pharmacy. (Government Institution)
  • Bharat Pharmaceutical Technology, Amtali and is imparting both Degree and Diploma courses in Pharmacy (Private run).

 

Para-Medical Institution

  • Tripura Institute of Para-Medical Sciences, Hapania is imparting various Para-Medical Graduate courses. 35% of the available seats in each course is reserved for the State Govt. (PPP Model Institute).
  • Bhavans Tripura College of Science and Technology.

 

Nursing Colleges

  • Tripura College of Nursing, located in the Tripura Medical College complex at Hapania under which the Tripura is imparting B.Sc. Nursing course (Run by the same society under which the Tripura Medical College is running)
  • The Institute of Nursing Science at Durjoynagar is imparting M.Sc Nursing, Post Basis B.Sc (Nursing) and B.Sc Nursing course also, apart from GNM course (Private Institution)
  • School and College of Nursing, Amtali under TIPS imparting ANM , B.Sc Nursing, and M.Sc Nursing course . 35% of the available seats in each course is reserved for the State Govt .(PPP Model)
  • Tripura Sundari College of Nursing,Tulacona imparting GNM and B.Sc Nursing course ( Private).

IGM :-

  • 20 seats of Post MBBS NBEMS Diploma Courses at IGM Hospital have been approved against 4 disciplines under National Board of Examination, New Delhi. Out of these 4 seats in Paediatric, 6 seats in Obst. and Gyneacology, 4 seats in Ophthalmology and 6 seats in Family Medicine out of which 10 seats (50%) are State Quota seats for Tripura State Govt. In service Doctors.

 

RIPSAT :-

  • 1. PCI and AICTE has approved for starting 15 seats for M. Pharm Course started in RIPSAT, in 6 seats after getting PCI and AICTE approved.
  • 2. RIPSAT faculty have started getting 7th Pay Commission AICTE pay scale from April 2021.
  • 3. Repairing of internal roads started.
  • 4. New Iron removal plant installed.
  • 5. Approval has been received from Department of Science and technology, Government of India to conduct Research Programme in development of Phytomedicine from medicinal plants of Tripura in RIPSAT.
  • 6. Repair of approach Road in RIPSAT done.

 

Nursing :-

  • 1. 147number of seats have been increased in Nursing Courses in various Nursing Institute of Tripura, ILS-50 BSc Nursing seats, TIPS-25 MSc. seats, Sarvodaya-60 GNM seats, TLN-12 MSc Nursing seats started/increased.
  • 2. NOC issued to the ILS Nursing institute for introduction of BSc. Nursing programme for the academic year 2021-2022

 

Achievement during the year 2020-21

AGMC:-

  • 1. 16 number of Post graduate seats have been increased from 63 Post graduate seats to 79 Post graduate seats at Agartala Govt.
  • 2. Medical College. Amongst these 50% seats are for State Quota and 50% for All India Quota.

  • 6. Installation of 02 (two) PSA Oxygen Generation plants of 1000 LPM and 900 LPM for Jayanti Block and NTH-1 of AGMC and GBP Hospital installed, commissioned and operational since October 2021.
  • 7. Upgradation of the BSL-2 Lab of VRDL to BSL-3 level-supply order issued.
  • 8. Gene Sequence- Installation completed.

 

IGM :-

  • 1. 20 numbers of seats have been sanctioned against 4 number of disciplines at IGM hospital under National Board of Examination, New Delhi. Out of these, 4 (four) number of seats in Paediatrics, 4 (four) number of seats in Ophthalmology, 6 (six) number of seats in Family Medicine and 6 (six) number of seats in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. 50% of seats are reserved for State Domicile.
  • 2. 20 seats Post MBBS NBEMS Diploma Courses at IGM Hospital against 4 disciplines under National Board of Examination, New Delhi. Out of these 4 seats in Paediatric, 6 seats in Obst. and Gyneacology, 4 seats in Ophthalmology and 6 seats in Family Medicine out of which 10 seats (50%) are State Quota seats for Tripura State Govt. Pharmacy :-

RIPSAT :-

Total 90 numbers of seats have been increased in RIPSAT.

  • 30 (thirty) seats have been increased in B.Pharm RIPSAT.
  • 40 (fourty) seats have been started in B.Pharm Practice Course in RIPSAT.
  • PCI and AICTE has approved for starting 15(fifteen) seats for M.Pharm Course in RIPSAT.

 

Bharat Pharmaceutical Technology :-

  • One new Pharmacy Institute (Bharat Pharmaceutical Technology) has been established in Amtali.
  • 60 (sixty) seats in D. Pharm Course.
  • 60 (sixty) seats in B. Pharm Course.

 

Nursing :-

  • 04 (four) nos. of new Nursing Training Institute have been established.
  • 265 number of seats have been increased in Nursing Courses in various Nursing Institutes of Tripura.
  • Newly constructed NTI building handed over to the Director of Medical Education. GNM training course is going on there and 150 bedded hostel facility is also available for student. (Boys only).

2 Increase in PG (MD/MS) seats in AGMC. 38 nos PG (MD/MS) seats in 2 (two) new Departments started in AGMC making total of 63 seats in 15 Departments.
3 PG Diploma Course in DCH, DGO and DPB at IGM hospital continuing. PG Diploma Courses at IGM Hospital under College of Physician and Surgeon (CPS) in three different disciplines (DCH, DGO and DPB) started from 2018-19 academic sessions and still continuing.
4 D.Pharma Courses in RIPSAT, Abhoynagar. Agartala. A.D.Pharma AllopathyofRIPSATwhichwas derecognizedwasreaffiliated and was restarted(25seats). B.D.PharmaAyurvedicandHomoeopathic Courses with 10 nos of seats in each discipline started from 2018 academic year and still continuing.
5 Specialist services available in Central Lab of AGMC. 24 hours round the clock specialist services started in Central Lab of AGMC.
6 Online registration of ANM and GNM Course. Online registration of ANM, GNM candidates for training courses started from 2018-19 academic session.
7 NOC have been issued to 03 nos of Private Institutes for opening their Pharmacy and Nursing Institutes. 03 nos NOC have been issued for starting of (i) North East Institute of Nursing Science for GNM and B.Sc. Nursing (A Division of Balaji Tele Works Development Pvt. Ltd.). (ii) SARBODAYA TRUST for ANM School at Melaghar, Sepahijala District, and (iii) Pharmacy College at Amtali, from 2019-20 academic year.
8 NewSuperSpecialty Departmentshavebeen started in AGMC and GBP Hospital. New Super specialty Departments (i) Urology Department, (ii) Plastic Surgery Department and (iii) Neuro-surgery Department have been started in AGMC and GBP Hospital. Super specialists have been appointed in these Departments.
9 CTVS consultant has been appointed. CTVS (Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery) Consultant has been appointed and establishment of Cath Lab is nearing completion.
10 Trauma Care Centre. Trauma Care Centre has been made effectively operational.
11 e-Hospital and e-Blood Bank Services have been launched in AGMC and GBP Hospital. e-Hospital and e-Blood Bank Services have been launched in AGMC and GBP Hospital. New Teaching Block 2 (NTH 2) and e-Smart classes has been started in AGMC.
12 Special Surgical Camps. Special Surgical Camps in every 2ndSaturday were started to clear long waiting list of Surgeries. The backload surgical cases have been operated upon to a great extent.
13 Streamlining of the academic course of 45 B.Sc Nursing Students. 45 Nos. B.Sc. Nursing 2nd year students of Tripura Sundari College of Nursing whose academic future looked jeopardized due to Indian Nursing Council (INC) non affiliation of the said course in that college has been streamlined following redistribution of these students into 3(three) other affiliated colleges in Tripura without loss of any semester with the permission of Indian Nursing Council (INC).
14 Indian Nursing Council affiliation to ANM Training Institute. ANM (Revised) Training Institute (Palace Compound) got Indian Nursing Council affiliation from 2018-19 academic year.

4 Increase of seats at Institute of Nursing Science, Durjoynagar. 20 (twenty) seats have been increased for BSc Nursing and 10 (ten) seats increased for Post Basic Nursing at Institute of Nursing Science, Durjoynagar.
5 Introduction of ANM Courses in four new Institutes. 40 seats in ICFAI University, 40 seats in Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura Institute of Nursing Science, 40 seats in Sarbodhaya Nursing Institute, 30 seats in North East Institute of Nursing Sciences.
6 Special Surgical Camps still continuing which was started at AGMC from stated 2018. Special Surgical Camps in every 2ndSaturday are still continuing to clear up the long waiting list of Surgeries. The backload surgical cases have been operated upon to a great extent.
7 New contractual posts created at AGMC. 35(thirty five) new contractual posts of faculties have been created for the Regional Geriatric Centre in AGMC in various categories.
8 Bond for UG/PG (MD/MS) Courses. UG/PG (MD/MS)-bond :- A modified form of bond is prepared and approved by the Govt. of Tripura to execute before admission to UG and PG Courses of Tripura domiciled seats.
9 For Ultra Sonography training course under PC and PNDT Act framed. USG Guideline is Prepared for undergoing training course of USG under PC and PNDT Act from 2020. 5 (five) seats created for each 6 monthly training course. 1stsession from 1stJanuary, 2nd session from 1stJuly of each year.
